With over ten years of mechanical experience, a huge passion for all classic and modern motors and an ambition to own my own business is the result of Gittings Classic and Modern being launched. My love for cars began when I was five years old and I used to pretend to drive my Dad's old work van, and it has only evolved since then. From visits to Brands Hatch with my Auntie, Uncle and Grandad, to being a passenger in a Ford Focus RS, being driven sideways on two wheels. I knew this was the career to pursue when I was older.
This transformed into leaving school after exams at 16 with an apprenticeship (and purchasing the above Mini, although it was in a more complete state) at a local second-hand car dealership in Haslemere, where I grew up. It was here I learnt the very basics of the trade, such as changing tyres and general etiquette, before gaining more experience and completing jobs such as servicing, brakes, suspensions and so on. I spent many more years here before moving on to working on vintage Bentley's, the racing department at McLaren and eventually starting at Classic Car Mechanic in Liphook, where I have just spent two years. Here, I worked on cars such as a 1930s Austin 7, Austin Martin DBS, Morgan Aero 8, a variety of Triumph's, MG's and Mini's, VW Campers and Beetles, as well as anything modern.
Now, relocated to Somerset with my wife, Abbey, who also helps out with the business and has a desire and passion for cars, I have ventured out on my own with Gittings Classic and Modern. I hope to have you on this journey with us!
